The Life That We’ll Never Live In our lives today, we take advantage of all the luxuries that are presented daily. Freedom alone is one of the greatest luxuries we possess as an American nation. In Death and Life of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs and Utopia by Thomas Moore, we are presented two life styles, which some might consider very similar in various ways. Both authors focus on a peaceful living lifestyle, to better the people of the nation. Although some of their specific details are different, I believe that Jacobs would definitely approve of the features that More develops in Utopia. Utopia occupies a crescent-shaped island that curves in on itself, enclosing a large bay and protecting it from the ocean and wind. She explores the three primary uses of sidewalks: safety, contact, and assimilating children. Street safety is promoted by pavements clearly marking a public/private separation, and by spontaneous protection with the eyes of both pedestrians and those watching the continual flow of pedestrians from buildings. To make this eye protection effective at enhancing safety, there should be â€Å"an unconscious assumption of general street support† when necessary, or an element of â€Å"trust†. As the main contact venue, pavements contribute to building trust among neighbors over time. The use of sidewalks and it discipline is very similar to the way the military is ran its purpose for war and peace keeping in Utopia. Utopians were very much against war and tried to avoid it as much as they possibly could. Their purpose for engaging in war is only to protect themselves, friends, or oppressed people. Utopians view war as stupid, shameful and they grieved after war. Utopians woul d rather use cunning to win wars than brute strength. Partial pressure assessment is utilized in measuring the quantity of molecules in any particular gas. Which reflect the amount of gas which contributes to any specific total pressure. Normal breathing for humans is at a pressure of 100kPa with oxygen contributing to 21% of the 100kPa, this corresponds to the partial pressure of 21 kPa, (Koeppen, 2009). For the patient the partial pressure of oxygen 55 mmHg higher lower than the reference values, signifying that there is low output pressure of oxygen in a mixture while that of carbon dioxide is 56mmHg is higher than the references values at 56mmHg, signifying that the number of molecules of both oxygen and carbon dioxide is compromised due to the sepsis sate of the patient. The sepsis infection has affected the functioning of the lungs coupled with bronchi infection in the patient. Base excess signifies the amount of bases which is required to be added or removed from substance in order to achieve normal ph status of 7.40. Variations form the normal ranges of -2 to +2 mEq/L is indicative of acidosis or alkalosis, (Ghosh, 2006). For the patient, there is normal range of base excess with the values of -2mmol/L. Bicarbonate state is determined by kidney functionality and acts as a buffering agent in order to maintain normal pH status. The amount of Bicarbonate in the patient is 24mmol/L showing normal state. Decrease in bicarbonate levels signifies fall on ions used to buffer the acid content, (Sigh, Khatana Gupta, 2013). Lactate production signifies a byproduct of anaerobic production. Increased levels of lactate are caused by process which leads to tissues to utilize anaerobic respiration. It indicates poor tissue perfusion state. The patient has significantly high levels of lactate content signifying poor perfusion state leading to its production in anaerobic respiration, (Kurtz et al, 2008). Thus the ABG analysis reflects severe state of the lung functioning due to the presence of sever sepsis with pneumonia state. The fluctuating levels of the various components depict severe sepsis state by the patient. Even though people try not to make preconceived notions, it just seems to happen instantly and uncontrollably. Once you have â€Å"branded† that person with your preconceived notion, they will always seem like that when you see them and it would be hard to change your mind about them. The only way of knowing how people are truly is to simply give them a chance and talk to them and get to know them better because you may never know when your notion may be overthrown. It is my personal experience to say that my first impression of someone who is now one of my closest friend have been overthrown when I took a chance and talked to her. The person that proved my preconceived notion to be false is one of my closest friends named Jolie. I also discovered that the branded clothes were for her to go out to dinner with her father because after all, she was his little girl. Jolie is a very caring friend who will always have my back whenever I needed it, and I know that for a fact. The experience I had with Jolie changed my complete view on everyone I walk pass or even have class with. Even though I promised myself that I would not make preconceived notions about people that I do not know, the idea seems to instantly pop into my mind. Although it would be easier to just go with your thoughts, I think about my experience with Jolie and disregard that false information. In my mind, that person is â€Å"Innocent until proven guilty†, or until I interact with them and learn real facts about them. Do not always believe in your first impression because there is always a chance that it was wrong. The way you â€Å"brand† a person can lead you away from a possible friend, or even lover. What I went through with Jolie led me to a greater understanding of people and to be able to give them a chance to be your friend.
